The Greater Mekong is home to some of the planet's most iconic and endangered species. New species are discovered here with remarkable frequency - over 3,600 since 1997.

The last year revealed amazing new species:  a ginger that smells like mango; a rosy loach, common in the aquarium trade; a bright orange crocodile newt; a karst dragon lizard that represents a new genus; and a soft furred hedgehog named after the Vietnamese word for vampire.
