Climate Change Mitigation
The forests of the Lower Mekong Region is a tropical biodiversity hotspot which not only serves as a major carbon sink, but also a source of livelihood for countless communities who live alongside them.
But to accommodate the demand for wood from businesses and consumers worldwide, we’re losing them to deforestation, degradation and fragmentation much quicker than we can restore them. With better protection, forests can continue to keep delivering essential services such as climate stability and clean water.
What WWF is doing
In collaboration with national governments and regional and local partners across five Mekong countries, WWF is:
- Engaging stakeholders to influence the development of impactful climate change mitigation policies and practices
- Developing high quality forest greenhouse gas emissions reduction or carbon sequestration projects
- Building capacities for nature-based solutions to climate change
